Another wonderful landmark that attracts much attention is the Early Christian Necropolis of Pecs. These are tombs that reside in the town of Sopianae. The tombs are underground, but what makes them most fascinating, is the fact that they have exquisite artwork adorning the above ground memorial chapels.
When visiting Hungary, you will undoubtedly want to visit the incredible caves, Aggtelek. Adjacent to the Slovakian border, Aggtelek, is a beautiful Karst cave system. The National Park features fourteen cave systems and over two hundred larger caves. There is an underground water system and is also home to East Europe’s largest and deepest caves. You can attend a guided tour through the cave system. The park is a national monument that serves to preserve and protect the caves.
The largest lake in all of Eastern Europe is located in Hungary; it is Lake Balaton. A visitor will enjoy the train rides that run adjacent to the river. Traveling throughout Hungary is excellent by train and makes it easy to visit some of the country’s most famous sites. The Lake Balaton region is also revered for its wine making and you can enjoy a lovely trip through the area as well as purchase some of the exquisite wine.
If you would like to explore Hungarian wildlife, you may enjoy a trip to Hortobagy. Situated adjacent to the Tisza River, is Hortobagy, a lowland prairie and wildlife preserve. The National Park seeks to preserve the spirit of the ancient Hungarian, and you will enjoy tours that include an emphasis on ancient culture.
If you would like to enjoy more picturesque villages that depict Hungarian life from the 17th century, then you will want to schedule a visit to the Old Village of Holloko and its Surroundings. Holloko means Raven Stone, and the town is situated at the foot of the Cserhat Mountains. You will enjoy the many museums as well as architectural structures that fill the city.
